I began as an intern and eventually become our first full-time employee. During this time, I have worked with our exhibiting artists, secured grant funding, organized programs, and all kinds of other things that keep the organization running. During my time here, I have had incredible opportunities to get creative with programming and fundraising, as well as to grow professionally. I have worked with artists from all over the world to create incredible, engaging programs with varied perspectives and a wide-ranging impact. I am proud to have played a part in Open Source’s deep commitment to supporting artists. We became W.A.G.E certified this year, making a commitment to pay artists a fair wage for their work. We have supported hundreds of artists while they experimented at Open Source, whether that has meant filling the gallery with two tons of sand or creating a residence for an artist living on Mars time. Despite all of our positive work, it hasn’t been easy. Maintaining a non-profit is difficult and the competition for funding is fierce--not to mention we have a federal administration in this country that is continually attempting to cut funding for and undermine the importance of the arts. Just recently, we’ve seen organizations we respect and look up to shutter their doors due to lack of funding. What I mean to say is: we have an incredible community at Open Source and we are doing incredible things. We’ve grown so much since I began at Open Source and we need your help to continue to grow. Though I will continue to be involved from afar, it’s hard to imagine leaving this community that we’ve worked so hard to build. That said, I am also looking forward to pursuing new opportunities and excited that Open Source will have the opportunity to do the same. I am so glad to have met and worked with such an amazing community who have been so supportive of all our endeavors, so I would like to go out with a bang! Please join us to celebrate how much we’ve grown--and help us raise money to support Open Source as we continue that growth!
