An Evening of Musical Theatre
with Morgane Dessislava
Singer | Pianist Born into a family of musicians, Morgane’s multi-cultural background is Bulgarian and French. Starting to sing and play the piano at a very young age she was influenced by her grandparents who were Opera singers in Sofia, Bulgaria and her mother who is the resident pianist at several 5-star hotels in Paris. Growing up, Morgane sang in Gospel choirs and Jazz groups, studied classical piano at the Conservatoire Marietta Alboni in Paris and Jazz privately with pianist, Michael Grossman. She first held a microphone at the age of six becoming a regular in her teens and now at “Open Mics” at well-known Parisian jazz clubs. Early on, she developed a passion for Musical Theatre driving her path to becoming a musical theatre performer. This included intensive dance training in ballet, tap, contemporary, street, French Cancan, the Graham technique, and Bob Fosse style. Trained in the Stanislavski Method of acting she has studied theatre from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams (Glass Menagerie) to Opera (Don Giovanni her favorite). This led to auditions at some of London's best musical theatre colleges for acting, singing and dance and was offered a place at the prestigious Guildford School of Acting. During a stint in London she performed in “Cilla - The Musical”.
Still on the musical theatre track, she is currently in Paris (returning to London in the Fall), where you can find her at the chic well known restaurant in Montmartre, La Crémaillère 1900. She has also played at the 5-star prestigious Le Bristol Palace Hotel, for the likes of Rami Malek, Kristen Stewart, former French President Sarkozy and Angela Merkel to name a few. A truly versatile pianist and singer, she can adapt to any audience and occasion with styles that range from jazz, pop, rock, soul, and classical to playing a vast range of standards and international varieties and genres.
At this Storytelling Evening, Morgane will play some standards and sing excerpts from her favorite musicals, giving a brief storyline to set the stage. This will include George Gershwin’s “Someone To Watch Over Me” from the Musical “Nice Work If You Can Get It”, and Cole Porter’s “Night and Day” from the musical “Gay Divorce”. She will also weave in some Bulgarian selections. Tri-lingual in French, Bulgarian and English, she also sings selections in Spanish. At this evening Morgane welcomes requests from guests and would be delighted to accompany and/or harmonize with any vocalists in the group. You can find her on Facebook Morgane Dessislava
