The 2019 Pre-Mothers Day Romp & Cairntucky Derby
sam. 11 mai à 15:30
The weather cooperated for our April meet-up and we welcomed Rocco and parents Debbie and Doug to the group. In deference to Mothers Day, our May meet-up will take place on SATURDAY May 11, with the make-up date the following Sunday May 19. I'm hoping that we've have enough human hands to feature the fifth running of the Cairntucky Derby. Here's how it will work: Around 10:15 we'll assemble the Cairns at the starting line (see accompanying photo) and position their owners/co-owners at the finish line some distance away. On signal, the Cairns are released and run (or walk, or meander or ignore) to their owners/co-owners. Encouragement is allowed but lures such as toys or treats are prohibited. Awards for first, second and third placements. (Sorry, but no "participation awards"; we don't have to worry about Cairn self esteem). We're hoping Nate "The Skate" Poage will be with us to defend his title. While some people may be able to perform double duty (i.e. hold two Cairns) at the start line, some owners will come unaccompanied and others will need some hand help at the start. I'd also like to have a starter, a judge or two and a videographer on the scene. So I encourage you to bring along family and/or friends so we have sufficient hands to conduct the race. If you think you've seen it all, you ain't seen nothin' 'til you've seen a Cairn race.
