Sleepy Hollow to Dobbs Ferry on the OCA Trail
ven. 7 juin à 15:30
The Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park is a linear park which runs from Van Cortlandt Park at the Bronx County/City of Yonkers border to the Croton Dam in Cortlandt. The scenic path over the underground aqueduct winds through urban centers and small communities. It passes near numerous historic sites, preserves, a museum highlighting the construction of the Aqueduct, and many homes. The Aqueduct’s grassy ceiling provides abundant recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. While primarily for walking and running, parts of the trail are suitable for horseback riding, biking (except during “mud season”), bird watching, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Our journey will begin at Gory Brook Road in Sleepy Hollow. To make this trek we will need to spot one or more cars at both ends. Any volunteers? Directions: To get to Gory Brook Road from Putnam Cty. take the Taconic State Pkwy south to the Saw Mill Pkwy S toward Yonkers. Take Exit 23 toward Saw Mill River Rd/Eastview. Turn right onto Old Saw Mill River Rd. Continue onto Neperan Rd. Turn right toward Tower Hill Rd, and continue onto County House Rd. Turn left onto Bedford Rd. Turn right onto Pine St. Turn right onto New Broadway. Turn right again onto Gory Brook Rd.--a dead end street--and park. Hike Summary: See link below for details. This is rated an easy hike with no climbing, rock scrambling, etc. More a stroll than a hike. How about lunch at Doubledays? See link below for details. Distance: 6 miles Type: Since this is a linear hike, it is necessary to spot cars. This means parking one vehicle at the finishing point and another vehicle at the starting point. We need to park at least one car at Gory Brook Road near Douglas Park in Sleepy Hollow and another at Dobbs Ferry. I plan on parking at 145 Palisade Street, Mercy College.
