Our Monthly Event: German Culture Meetup - February 2019 @Vapiano
sam. 23 février à 00:30
Hi everyone and thank you for last month's huge turnout, what a nice way to start off 2019! I hope everyone had a great Holiday Season and is ready to get started with our first 2019 monthly get-together at Vapiano. As back in December and January, we will again be sharing the space with the new European Culture Center group, which is founded and led by 2 fellow Germans, and whose members share a lot of interests with ours which always makes for great conversations. We hope to get the same great turnout and dynamic as the last 2 times! Rain or shine, don't miss our monthly meetup for conversations, new contacts, a few drinks and some delicious food if you like! The event starts at around 6:30pm, but expect people to come & go throughout the evening; you can come at whatever time works best for you, there is no formal start time. Our piggy bank accepts $1 donations, but no one is obligated, the event is free.
As always, expect great people, cold drinks, lots of new contacts, conversation and exchange of experiences here in the city. Read the notes, below, come join us and have a great time!
Vapiano is close to Union Square for easy transportation, has individual payment system to avoid shared checks, a large space to accommodate large group and a very low music level for conversations. Plus, they have plenty of food should you come hungry. NOTE: You will receive a plastic card upon entering, which you use to place all your orders at the bar or counter. At the end of the night you pay off your card as you exit the place. Is there a Cover Charge?
No! Our monthly meetup is free of charge as always.
If you like to help offset the cost for maintaining our group, you can make a $1 donation to our piggy bank, it is well appreciated but there is absolutely no obligation to do so. Do I have to speak German?
No. While many are German natives who will speak German, our conversations are usually mixed depending on your skills and preferences. How long is the event?
Vapiano closes at around Midnight. During past events many of our members stayed until closing, some went out clubbing afterwards, but there is no official end time. If you like to stay, you stay. If you need to head out early or just wanna stop by and say hi, that is totally fine. On the flipside, of course, there is no guarantee that we will stay till closing. Depends on how the night is going :) Who is going to this meetup?
Expect a colorful mix of people: Germans who have lived here many years, German Expats & Students, Americans who had studied in a German-speaking country, Americans who have German ancestry, people from all over the world who are interested in Germany or German culture or who would like to meet someone from Germany in person. Some people are looking for information about Germany, some are trying to speak the German language, others are coming to find out more about New York City as they just arrived here. What makes this group great is the mix of regulars, semi-regulars, and first-timers, which always ensures that you can meet new people but also have a place to see familiar faces if you come more often. The age group is all over the map as well: we never know who to expect and we like it that way, there are always great conversations to be had and new connections to be made. How do I get there by train?
