Announcing our next book and March 24th Meeting
dim. 24 mars à 18:00
February 9, 2019 Hi Book Lovers, Our next meeting is Sunday March 24th. We’ve chosen to read Beyond the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo. The author is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist on the staff of the New Yorker. This book is the result of 3 years she spent closely following the lives of a group of families living in a tiny Mumbai slum called Annawadi. She reveals what it’s like not only survive but aspire to prosper in spite of poverty so dire as to be almost unimaginable. The book also sheds light on the intricate web of factors that perpetuate such living conditions. What this book is not is dull, dry or depressing. Shashi Tharoor, the Indian politician/journalist/novelist, reviewing it for the Washington Post in 2012, said it reads like a thriller. He also praised it as “packing a punch like a Sinclair Lewis novel”. Beyond the Beautiful Forevers is a remarkable book you will not want to miss. Please come and join our discussion on Sunday March 24th from 1-3 pm. We return to Tanuja’s house in New Providence. If you live nearby and liked the book please come join us. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN UP ON MEETUP TO GET THE STREET ADDRESS. We do this to protect our hosts’ privacy. The street address will be sent only to those who RSVP with a valid e-mail. I will send out the address to our RSVP list on weekends at least 2x before the meeting. If you don’t see one of these by a couple of days before, write to me at [masked]. See you again soon when the trees are budding and days are longer Suzanne, organizer
