Philosophy shop in Yoyogi
jeu. 14 mars à 11:30
It is a philosophical cafe in English. What does that mean?
It means that it is not a lecture about philosophy, and that I am not a teacher in philosophy. It is a moderated philosophical discussion. Every time will bring in a new topic, and invites a core discussion of roughly 1 hour and a half,d discussed by a small group of 10mto 20 people, in English.
(Important: It is not an English class, and it is difficult for an English learner at a beginner level to participate. Please RSVP if you are comfortable expressing and developing your thoughts in English) Someone said about Philosophy that it is the art of creating problems where there isn't any.
Thus, this event aims to bring together people who want to discuss and reflect about unnecessary questions, that are of course the most important ones. Practically speaking, how does it work?
The conversation is a series of questions discussed by the group, some are prepared, most are not and follow the flow of the conversation.
It starts by either a short anecdote, or a picture, or a photo, or a short movie,... Or whatever that can invite a Start question.
We move then to whatever direction the group goes, to "investigate" the central theme and questions around it, more deeply. The outcome is not to come up with an answer. In fact, there is no predefined outcome. What you should seek is enjoying the process of reasoning, and confronting oneself to others views and beliefs. We just hope that you will find throughout the discussion new insights or new perspectives for yourself. What do you need to bring?
Your eagerness to think. If you want to bring in snacks or drinks, it is up to you. (none are sold at the venue) Last point: it is important that the conversation is not interrupted, so passed 19:40 (when the core conversation starts), nobody will be allowed to come in. Sorry! Price: Free.
