Have you ever thought about becoming a tennis official?
New Jersey high school tennis officials are paid to work at county, state, and invitational tournaments, as well as state team matches. Tournament pay is $85 for the first 3 hours and $25 each additional hour. Officials working state team matches earn $75 to $120, depending on the tournament's round and the number of courts used. Enrich your love of tennis by becoming an official! On Saturday, March 16th Carl Richko (a member of Wayne Racquet Club) will be teaching a class for new officials for the New Jersey High School Tennis Officials Association (NJHSTOA). It will be held at the Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness Club [masked]) in New Providence, NJ. Upon completion of the class and one on-court session, attendees will become certified New Jersey High School Tennis Officials. What are requirements?
You must be at least 18 years of age;
Have a general knowledge of tennis rules;
Complete and send in the application which can be found on the NJHSTOA website ( http://www.njhstoa.com/ );
Attend the one-day new officials class and
Have one "on-court" experience. Please email or call Carl Richko [masked]) ([masked]) if you have any questions or need further information. $85 Entrance Fee includes local NJHSTOA dues, official shirt, patch, tennis rule book, training materials, etc. Once you take the course, there will be an additional fee, paid online, of $60 to the State (NJ State Interscholastic Athletics Association) for yearly state certification and background check. Once you have completed the training and received certification, your name will appear on an officials list provided to athletic directors throughout the state. Tennis officials are used for some dual matches and at most county and invitational tournaments. NJSIAA officials are mandatory for all rounds of the New Jersey state team tournament and individual singles and doubles tournament.
