And so it is that another year has flown by and too many resolutions for the New Year are, sadly enough, already falling by the wayside. Will this be the year you get that novel out of your head and on to paper? Or will another year zip past snatching your hopes and dreams of becoming the proud author of a completed book with it? Procrastination is what ails many a writer, grasping her in its clutches and zapping her of her creative energy. Procrastination is like body restraints, relentlessly keeping one held hostage and arresting creative development. You must find a way to break free of the wicked procrastination monster and set your literary genius free! A sure-fire way of beating procrastination is simply not giving into it--not completely anyway. You may not feel like writing the five pages on the day you had planned to, so write one page instead. If you can't muster the gumption to write a single page, write a paragraph, or your thoughts about your novel, or a simple idea about the story you'd like to tell. Here's the thing about becoming an author, you have to write. I'm sorry. I didn't make the rules. That's just how it is. Hopefully, you've started out the year putting action to commitment and this bit of diatribe doesn't apply to you. ;=) At our next meetup, we'll be introducing our novels by way of a complete, clearly articulated synopsis. Bring a complete synopsis of your book high-lighting your plot points, climax, and steps to resolution. Also, bring the first chapter of your book--no longer than 15 pages if you'd like to share it with the group. If you did not attend our first meetup on "writing the synopsis," no worries. You can google, "how to write a book synopsis," to be able to participate or you can simply come to share your writings, ideas, or thoughts about your future book. For those of you who missed out on our last meetup, too bad for you. We had cake and warm cider and lots of laughs. I'd also like to congratulate Julie May who won our Christmas giveaway. I do hope that she's gleaning good information from her prizes. Hope to see you all on the 27th. In the meantime, write on! Dee
