Monday D&D 5E Meetup for Beginners (Roster Full)
Toutes les 2 semaines, les lundi
Meeting every other Monday, Starting January 21. You must be 21 years old or older to play. What makes this a beginner game? While Dungeons and Dragons is an intensely fun game that caters to improvisation and out-of-the-box solutions, it’s not a free-for-all, as there are guidelines that limit your actions. At first look, these rules can seem intimidating. A beginner-focused game means an atmosphere where you can break character to ask questions for clarification, or make mistakes galore. Secondly, many games want committed players that are in it for the long haul. I understand that first time players may discover that D&D isn’t their particular brew. This meetup is definitely for water-testing, with no hard feelings for those who decide to move on. If I am a long time veteran player, can I still join? If you wanted to bring along someone new to the world of D&D, absolutely! If you are coming alone, maybe, so shoot me a message. I’ll give fair warning: the expectations and stakes here will be a little different from a veteran game. I don’t expect anyone here to have a perfectly built character, and unless intentionally reckless choices or REALLY unlucky rolls are made, I don’t expect to tally up a bunch of character deaths. So if building the latest fully optimized character to be thrown into eight deadly encounters in a row is your jam, this is not the group for you. Patience and a willingness to see the team change over time will be necessary for experienced players. Do I need to buy a bunch of stuff to play? You’ll only need a pencil and some paper for notes (unless your memory is amazing, then you’ll only need a pencil). If you find yourself loving the game, you might want to think about getting your own dice set, but I’ll have a rad color-coded dice set for group use. Wait, I don’t have to buy all the books!? If you are playing your first game, I recommend starting with this free (and completely legal) basic guide instead: https://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/rules/basic-rules . The website I linked to also offers a wonderful character builder that I use to help with character sheets. The books for purchase open up some fun options, but they are not at all mandatory here. Do I need to do research or create a character before I arrive? Nope, we’ll be rolling up characters in the first session, also called “session zero.” It might be a good idea to look over some online guides to figure out what type of character you would have the most fun playing as. If you want to see a game in action beforehand, feel free to check out this introductory series from Wizards of the Coast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cXJszfnWyQ&list=PLfS8QgUdeGYrqGfhq79VojkG8iTQ7J6HB . Just make sure that you realize that you are watching one of the best DMs on earth playing with professional actors, and set expectations accordingly!
