For the end of the year we have Hugo of DataFramed fame. This is a new venue and it has tight security restrictions. So the name on your government-issued ID MUST MATCH the name you registered, with which is your Meetup username, or you WILL NOT be allowed entry. So please make sure your Meetup username has your full name. About the Talk:

This talk will focus on what data scientists do, what they don’t and what people expect them to do, from C-level to citizens and from pollster to politicians. Armed with insights from over 50 hours of conversations with data scientists from tech, academic research, digital media, management consulting, healthcare and many other verticals, Hugo will dive into the current state of data science, beginning with the responsibilities of today’s data scientists, how data science is becoming integral to every industry and how it necessarily relates to the decision function in organizations. He'll also explore the increasing professional specialization that’s emerging in the discipline, as well as the tools today and tomorrow’s data scientists need. Finally, he'll examine the future of the profession, including whether it will even exist in 10 years and ethical issues that can no longer be ignored. About Hugo:

Hugo is a data scientist at DataCamp, a data science training company educating over 3 million learners worldwide through interactive courses on the use of Python, R, SQL, Git, Bash and Excel in a data science context. He has spearheaded the development of over 25 courses in DataCamp’s Python curriculum, impacting 300,000 learners worldwide through his own courses. Hugo is also host of the data science podcast DataFramed. Hugo earned his PhD in Mathematics from the University of New South Wales, Australia and has conducted biomedical research at the Max Planck Institute in Germany and Yale University, New Haven. Pizza (nyhackr.org/pizzapoll.html) begins at 6:30, the talk starts at 7, then after we head to the local bar.
