Learn how to create 3D designs using the popular professional grade Fusion 360 package from Autodesk. No prior 3D or 2D design experience is necessary. Create your own 3D designs which have application in 3D printing, woodwork, illustrations and animation. Two 3 hour sessions with lab exercises. Before the Workshop

Fusion 360 runs on Windows (64 bit) and Mac OSX. You are recommended to bring your own laptop and a mouse with a clickable scroll wheel for your laptop. Alternatively, Windows laptops that are preloaded with Fusion 360 are available for use at the Makerspace. Autodesk allows free use of Fusion 360 for education and other non-profit purposes . All students must apply for a Fusion 360 user account prior to the start of the course from . If you will be bringing your own laptop you should download and install the Fusion 360 software before you arrive. • Brief review of and comparison with OpenSCAD and Tinkercad

• Key principles behind Fusion 360 model design

• Navigating the user interface

• Introduction to 2D sketching

• Creating 3D objects from 2D sketches

• Understanding bodies and components

• Viewing and navigating around 3D objects

• Sketching on surfaces of 3D objects

• Using sketch constraints including dimensions

• Additional sketch facilities - filets, mirrors, text, patterns and offsets

• Modifying 3D objects – filets, chamfers, materials and color

• Using 3D objects for 3D printing

• Exercise: Designing a “Do-nothing machine” 28th February, 6-9pm

• Question and answer session from the first part of the class

• Combining 3D objects

• Basic photorealistic rendering
