About this activity
‘Hina dolls’ are displayed on the Girls’ Festival Day of March 3 to pray for good health and happiness of girls. They used to be made of paper and be flowed on the surface of rivers as they were believed to take away evils of girls who own them. The practice was gradually changed to display them indoors toward the middle of the Edo period in the 18th century. The displays became gorgeous for the growth of the economy and the cultural development at the time.
This activity is created to enjoy crafting hina dolls and display them more casually to incorporate them in our daily life styles as a type of Japanese dolls not only for the special occasion. So, we would like to just call them Japanese dolls in this activity. Also, we love Japanese kimono fabrics.
Due to the first time offer, the host would like to invite two non-Japanese people each time for free to experience this activity with us if you love to take pictures together. An experienced doll class teacher will come to this activity to teach us.
There are two patterns on the doll sets available. They are the rabbit type and the human sitting type both wearing of the Japanese kimono.
For the refreshing time after the activity, we’ll taste some sake and snacks with the sake cups in the Kutani style. I put the schedules for the summary below. Guys are also ok to participate in. Get in touch for your participation! Activity Schedue: 1. December 15 Saturday, from 13:30 to 17: 30.
Doll making ends at 16:30 and then sake & snacks time 2. December 22 Saturday, from 13:30 to 17: 30
Doll making ends at 16:30 and then sake & snacks time Plus bonus present, I present an admission ticket to the Bonsai Museum Shunkaenin Edogawa-ward to one of the two people joined by drawing lots each time. It’s good to explore Japanese culture. The venue is located in Koami-cho, Nihonbashi.
The details will follow after your applying to this activity. Because of avoiding wrong arrangement, your making sure of the schedule fit or not is appreciated.
Japanese hand-made dolls are lovely to have them for you or give them to your friends or your family. After the Japanese doll making experiences, our group activities will be back to usual Japanese and non-Japanese mixed style. Kind regards,
Yoko of SSJC
