Join New York Adventure Club ( https://www.nyadventureclub.com/ ) as we learn the art of gingerbread house making with the legendary Jon Lovitch ( http://gingerbread-lane.org/ ), a celebrated chef in New York who has gained international notoriety for his annual Gingerbread Lane ( https://nysci.org/event/gingerbread-lane/ ) holiday exhibition, which is the largest gingerbread village in the world and is currently showcased each holiday season at the New York Hall of Science in Queens. Our introduction into making world-class gingerbread houses with the holiday master himself will include: • The 101 on Jon Lovitch, from how he got into the gingerbread house making business, to what inspired him to create his famous Gingerbread Lane exhibition over 25 years ago

• A step-by-step demonstration on how to build the perfect gingerbread house, from how to keep it standing to the best ingredients for all-star decorations (hint: lots of frosting!)

• The opportunity to create your own gingerbread house to take home afterward

• Expert tips throughout the evening including how to preserve your gingerbread house creation, how to make gluten-free / egg-free houses, and tried-and-tested recipes for yummy gingerbread treats like gingerbread cheesecake or gingerbread bread pudding All gingerbread house candy, ingredients, and supplies will be included. See you there! About Jon Jon Lovitch is a chef and the creator of Gingerbread Lane, an annual display of homemade and handmade gingerbread houses that he drafts, designs, bakes, plans, builds, and decorates for an entire year. Yes, it takes all year to put this winter wonderland together, which descended on downtown Pittsburgh for the first time this November, after five consecutive holiday seasons at Robinson Mall. Originally hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Jon was inspired by a local pastry chef by the name of Chuck Conroy and a mutual chef friend by the name of Joe Evano to create this elaborate holiday treat that has grown from just 12 houses in 1994 to 138 this year, all made from 100% edible materials. No fake snow or cardboard stands even! Gingerbread Lane always sits out in the open, rather than behind glass, a fact that can really be appreciated when one smells the homemade gingerbread. The concept for Gingerbread Lane changes each year, depending on what Lovitch has seen at gingerbread competitions, in magazines, at holiday displays, sometimes even drawing ideas from houses he spots while driving.
