Delaware and Hudson Part 7: Lackawaxen South!
dim. 25 novembre à 14:00
Join us for this awesome point to point hike, the seventh in our Delaware and Hudson series!
This time, we'll meet on Rt 97 near Pond Eddy at a parking area, then shuttle north to our starting point.
The hike as I have scaled it off is 14.7 miles, but those wishing to skip the fist section can do so and meet late.
The hike starts with a visit to Minisink Battlefield Park. Two miles of trails will loop us through the only Revolutionary War site in the area.
We then walk down the road to Lackawaxen and the Delaware Aqueduct, world's oldest suspension bridge and oldest bridge over the Delaware. It was once a canal aqueduct, repurposed for road use.
We will walk the old towpath north to the outlet lock site, cross the aqueduct on one side, explore the former sites of Locks one through three on the PA side, then return on the other side of the aqueduct.
Once on the NY side, we will head downstream along the Delaware looking for remnants of the old canal.
THis series has been fantastic, and this one looks like it will be just as great!
