Nov Poetry Open Mic at SVH in Suffern NY feat Aaya Perez
dim. 18 novembre à 00:30
Our monthly poetry open mic happens in Suffern the 3rd Saturday of each month. We are in the community room of the top floor of Suffern Village Hall at 61 Washington Avenue. There is ample free parking behind SVH, and behind and next to the Lafayette Theater. The venue is a 5-minute walk from the Suffern Train Station, which is a stop on the Main/Bergen/Port Jervis lines from Secaucus. Anyone that wants to can come and sign up to read up to 5 minutes of original poetry. Doors/sign-ups at 6:30 PM. Poetry starts at 7:03 or so. Come. $5 recommended donation at the door. This month, we are featuring Aaya Perez. Aaya Perez is an intersectional genderqueer poet and polymath born and raised in NYC. Aaya has represented Urban Word NYC and New York City at the Brave New Voices Festival in 2016, and is a member of the 2018 Jersey City Slam Team, competing at the National Poetry Slam. They have performed at The Apollo Theatre, The Metropolitan Museum Of Art, The Lincoln Center, and The Washington Monument. They teach regular workshops in association with JC Slam and has had their work featured in and Rookie Magazine and Buzzfeed - among others. Aaya recently premiered their debut play “Meet Me At The Crossroads” in the theatrical anthology “If Wings Could Grow”, is one-fourth of the unapologetically millennial podcast “No Wifi”, and is currently working to be queer and black in this country.
