GraphQL vs REST GraphQL is the fancy thing you keep hearing about for web APIs. REST is that thing you hear about for how web (HTTP) APIs are traditionally done. You're pretty sure you know what everyone is talking about but don't yet feel confident enough to join the conversation? During this discussion, we'll go over what each is exactly, how they're different, how you can use them, when is best to use one over the other and how they compare to RPC, to help understand GraphQL vs REST subtleties. Come find out! A little bit about the speaker...

Chris is a Senior Engineering Manager at Braze, responsible for the Data & Analytics teams that build Braze's Kafka Currents product, handling billions of messages daily, as well as their analytics and reporting dashboards. He is also responsible for the team building microservices and application infrastructure tooling for improving engineering practices. Prior to Braze, Chris was an Engineering Manager at Plated, before that a Senior Engineer building sub-millisecond multithreaded services driving options market making software for a Wall Street trading firm. For many years prior to that Chris was an independent contractor building web applications focusing on live streaming video. Chris has also been an actor on TV, meditates regularly, has a black belt, and has been known to play a video game or two.
