Meditation and Mindfulness In Your Life and Work
jeu. 29 novembre à 01:30
If you can be present right now fully present This is the best season of your life. -- Medieval Buddhist poet Wu-Men (translated by Jim Handlin) Mindfulness is in danger of becoming simply a buzzword nowadays. But what does it really mean and what does it really offer? What is worth pursuing and what is not in order to understand its origin and reap its powerful benefits? People across our society -- from ABC news anchor, Dan Harris (author of 10% Happier), to people as diverse as Ariana Huffington, Oprah Winfrey and Richard Gere -- attribute much of their success to daily meditation practice. Why? In this meetup, we’ll talk to Dr. Diane Handlin and Dr. Jim Handlin, who teach Jon Kabat-Zinn’s popular “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction” course. They’ll describe how they first encountered meditation and why they’re so passionate about sharing its benefits. We’ll talk about how awareness of your mental state can lead to greater clarity, calm, and effectiveness in all spheres of life. They’ll give tips for getting started with meditation, whether you want to start on your own or find a group. And of course, they’ll answer all your questions about it! We’ll conclude with a short guided meditation. Maria Manjelo has graciously offered her cozy, elegant photo studio as the venue -- many thanks to her! The $10 fee will be collected at the door.
