From its rocky, mountainous regions to its white, sandy beaches, New Jersey has a diverse geological history. Dr. Lauren Neitzke Adamo, research geologist and director of the Rutgers Geology Museum, will discuss how the earth’s tumultuous past created the landscapes we see today in this Option Green program open to adults and budding geologists ages 8 and older. Attendees can bring along a rock for an expert identification. Dr. Adamo received her Bachelors, Masters, and PhD in Geological Sciences from Rutgers University. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms and underlying causes of the abrupt climate changes that are observed in sediment cores in the North Atlantic Ocean over the last 200,000 years by examining various geochemical, paleontological, and sedimentological proxies. She also spent much of her graduate career teaching science and geology to a variety of formal and informal audiences and was thrilled to accept a position at the Rutgers Geology Museum as the Associate Director in 2009 and as the Museum Director in 2016. This position allows her to combine her love of teaching, science, research, and dinosaurs through the implementation of various educational activities and programming for the Rutgers and New Jersey communities.
