BEND-A-THON 2018: a circuit bending hackathon jam
dim. 25 novembre à 19:00
It's been a long time since we had a good hackathon over here at MakerBar, so let's bend some stuff! Please come join us for a full day of lovely electronic hackery, makery, and debauchery. We will be taking things apart that make noise and modifying them to make new instruments (loose terminology) - a process known as "circuit bending" (youtube has plenty of content to get you up to speed). Come hack as an individual or on team, or just come to hang out since this is unofficially a bday party for our semi-retired shop manager and event host, Jordan. Bring your own parts and/or use some of ours. Trade/barter parts with your fellow hackers. We have a good selection of tools, but you may want to bring a powered driver or a mini screwdriver kit since there will be a bunch of us hacking at the same time. We have lots of gloves and goggles, but please feel free to bring your own. Safety Third! (ask us what comes 1st and 2nd). Additionally, if you have a wired or wireless speaker, you will want to bring it for testing your contraptions, as we cannot guarantee one will be available for all participants. We are working on getting some instrument demos from established benders in the area to showcase their craft, so please reach out if you have any interest or contacts who might. Near the end of the day, we will have a demo from all the teams/individuals of their creations, and there will be voting on the best contraption in a number of categories, as well as a people's choice award, so come rep your respective makerspaces, and [in Cromulon accent] SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT. If there's extra time/interest, we will "jam" or possibly compose a piece for personal and social media gratification. Event hours are a bit flexible depending on attendees interest level. MakerBar is a 501c3 non-profit makerspace and educational community, so we kindly suggest that all participants make a financial donation of $10 or more to support our supply of electronics consumables, tool maintenance, and keeping the electrons flowing, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds. At the host's request, there will be no alcohol allowed into MakerBar for this event, which is open to people of all identities, as long as they are over 18 years old. Participation is free for MakerBar members, who are encouraged to bring lots of things for bending swap meet and component stockpiles <3 More details TBA :)
