Hey everyone, For the reading this week, let's start with Chapter 1.1 in the book, "Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs". It is one of the most influential programming textbooks, and there is a free version online. The examples are in Scheme / Lisp but we can do all the exercises in Elixir. Here is a link to the free book: https://sarabander.github.io/sicp/html/1_002e1.xhtml - Let's read all of 1.1. Up to and including section 1.1.8 (Procedures as Black-Box Abstractions).

  • If you're just getting started with Elixir, I highly recommend you start here and go through the guide prior to our discussions so you get the basic concepts down: https://elixir-lang.org/getting-started/introduction.html

  • Doors open at 5:30pm, but we'll plan on getting started promptly at 6pm. Feel free to come at 5:30pm to chat or if you need help getting Elixir running. This is the very first Meetup so please provide any feedback! Space is limited, so please update your RSVP if you realize you can't make it.
