DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY GOING TO ATTEND ***** BE EARLY - STARTS ON TIME - RUNNING LATE YOU MISSED THE HIKE ###### All signups will be waitlisted to assure room for those who have a good record of showing up for hikes, and have the ability to complete this hike. You should have previously (and recently) completed hikes of equivalent mileage and elevation gain to this hike to do this. You should be getting regular cardio exercise to do this. Rain cancels!!!! Total Mileage: 11.8 Total Elevation Gain: about 2200' Pace/Time: ~1.5 mph / ~8-9 hours, including breaks NYNJTC Long Path over Cross Mtn., Mt. Pleasant, and Romer Mtn.. Cross Mtn. has one of the most spectacular views in all of the Catskills - 360° from a large open rock area. There will also be a good view to the west, toward Slide, Giant's Ledge and Panther from Mt. Pleasant. This 9 mile LP section was opened on June 7, 2014, after 3 years of trail building, which I was part of. It eliminated the road walk from Woodland Valley Campground to Phoenicia. This is the most recent new trail in the Catskills, Built to the new NYDEC standards, it is best designed & constructed trail in the Catskills. Driving directions: Take NYS Thruway to exit 19, Kingston and go west on Rt. 28 to Phoenicia. Go down the hill a very short distance and turn left onto High St.. In about 1/2 mile turn left onto Lane St. and the DEC parking area is at the end. A car shuttle is required to go to the start. Be early -- Car shuttle leaves at 8 a.m. SHARP!! Cell phone coverage at parking area is unreliable, so don't try sending messages. End of Lane St

[masked], [masked] Special Gear / Requirements: Warm and cool weather wicking clothing (avoid cotton!), food/water as you feel is appropriate, first aid, insulating layer and rain gear (just in case), trail conference maps #141-#143 & compass. HEADLAMP, in case running late. Avenza Maps app on cell phone, with NYNJTC entire Catkills map is excellent - works with GPS in airplane mode, so doesn't drain battery. Hiking poles can be of great assistance. Route Description: After the car shuttle to the Woodland Valley Campground, we go up the Wittenberg-Slide trail and then take a left onto the Long Path, which will take us over Cross, Pleasant & Romer.
