It's time for another Light Painting event. We will be in Columbus Circle in Manhattan. Weather permitting, we will meet by the statue in the middle of Columbus Circle. Nearest subway station is: Columbus Circle (A,B,C,D,1). Light Painting is long exposures of moving light. If you are unfamiliar with light painting, here are two links to short tutorials: Light Painting Tutorial Video - Fun with Photography ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IS-DBZEXcA ) Cool Long Exposure Photography Ideas ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T24_uq0AY6o ) --------------------------------------------------------- CHECK LIST OF TOOLS FOR LIGHT PAINTING. YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN TOOLS. TOOLS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED TO YOU: Camera and lens with manual settings -- most DSLR cameras will have manual settings. Make sure you know how to access your Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, focal points on the camera, and manual focus on your lens. If you don't, please review your camera's manual. You should also have access to a timer on your camera, to give yourself a few extra seconds to run in front of your camera, and be ready to start painting. If you have a different type of camera (ie point and shoot) with manual settings, you should be able to use it as long as you are able to control the shutter speed. Camera battery and memory card -- make sure your battery is fully charged and your memory card is formatted and/or empty. Tripod -- all long exposures will look their best when a camera is as still as possible. NOTE: USING YOUR TRIPOD WILL BE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Keep clear of pedestrians and/or bikers. Your choice of a bright light source, such as a speed light /shoe flash, flashlight, LED Light, homemade light tubes, pixelsticks, etc. -- you can get a flashlight or LED light at any hardware store. The brighter the better, but not too bright!! Just a reminder of our perk with www.LightPaintingBrushes.com ( http://www.lightpaintingbrushes.com/ ) -- get 15% off your order when you use our discount code (check our list of sponsors ( https://www.meetup.com/NYC-Photographers/sponsors/ )). Remote -- this is OPTIONAL. Remotes are usually for long exposures exceeding 30 seconds. If you plan on trying something big and time consuming, a remote would be a good idea. Dark clothing -- wearing dark clothing will give you best results for your light painting. Columbus Circle is a public area. NO STEEL WOOL PHOTOGRAPHY PLEASE!! --------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!! We want EVERYONE to participate in this event, not just take pictures of other people's light painting. So make sure you bring your own light painting tools. This is an opportunity to be creative and think outside the box. --------------------------------------------------------- • Dress appropriately for the weather & wear comfortable shoes. Bring money just in case. We usually end our meetups with food &/or drinks at a nearby restaurant. • PLEASE BE ON TIME!! Mass transit is especially slow on the weekends. Allow yourself enough travel time and check for delays or changes. If the subways are extra slow, we will wait an extra 15 minutes. • Don't leave your phone number for us to call you. And we will not give out our phone number. We will not be constantly checking our phones for messages once the meetup begins. Please do not send us private meetup messages. Leave all your questions and comments on this event page before the meetup begins. • There is no ending time for this event. So if you need to leave early, no worries. • Details of this event may be added or changed at any time, so please check in periodically on this page. Hope to see many of you there!! --------------------------------------------------------- Sales at Adorama are posted on our Message Boards. If you want to receive updates, click the Discussions tab > Message Board > Photography Gear for Sale. Then click on "Track this forum" and follow the prompts. You can always go back and undo this if you decide not to receive any more updates. --------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: Participation in these events requires that you assume all risks associated with these activities, and that the Organizers, Co-Organizers and Event Hosts are in no way liable for any loss or injury as a result of your participation. In other words, you are attending these events at your own risk!! Meetup charges Organizers a semi-annual fee to maintain the group's event page. If you would like to send a contribution to help keep NYC Photographers up and running, you can send $2.00 or more via PayPal at [masked] . If you do not have PayPal, you can contribute cash on site. This is NOT a requirement, but any amount will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
