This Dukes Estate walk is on a scenic route filled with interesting places. I will occasionally comment on some things (architecture/history), but you will have plenty of time to socialize with others. Cost: The cost of this event is $4 per person, which is paid at the start of the walk. (Please read the "About Us Section" for more information regarding the $4 per person fee for each event.) Walk is 6 1/2 miles, moderate paced, with easy/wide paved, gravel or dirt trails. After lunch, this route will be somewhat different from the previous Duke Estate walk. Bring lunch (lunch about 2:30 PM), water, walking shoes, EXTRA LAYERS OF CLOTHING, sun protection. Also insect spray (might not need it but have it with you just in case.) According to reports, fall foliage starts in Central NJ in mid-October. THERE IS NO NEED TO POST WHY YOU CAN'T MAKE THE EVENT. If you are registered for this walk & can't attend, please change your RSVP online from "YES" to "NO". (PLEASE READ THE "ABOUT US SECTION" FOR THE GUIDELINES REGARDING THE NO SHOW POLICY.) No young children or pets allowed on walk w/o prior approval of organizer. No smoking, please. If you have a personal matter/questions, please contact John, Event Host, directly through his private Meetup account. Description: We'll walk in Duke Estate, which has 2,700 acres, including 1,000 acres open to public. Admission is FREE. The Duke Estate has over 40 historic buildings, many sculptures, lakes, gardens, ruins, & trees. Feature photo above shows aerial view of 67,000 sq ft Duke mansion, which was demolished in 2016. Public Transportation from NYC to Raritan: Take PATH train from World Trade Center in lower Manhattan to NEWARK

Penn Station. Fare is $2.75 one way. You can use NYC paid-per-ride to pay the fare, but can't use NYC unlimited MetroCard or NYC Senior MetroCard. THEN at NEWARK Penn Station, take 11:38 AM NJ Transit train (Raritan Valley Line) to Raritan NJ, arriving 12:42 PM. Before boarding train at NEWARK Penn Sta., buy ticket at NJ Transit ticket window or vending machine. Get ticket from NEWARK to Raritan, (Regular fare is $11.00 one way; children/disabled/senior fare [62 years & up] is $4.90 one way) Purchasing regular fare on train is more expensive ($5 surcharge). However, children/disabled/seniors citizens [62 years & up] who show identification may purchase ticket on the train w/o paying $5 penalty. Allow extra time to buy tickets at NEWARK Penn Sta. (Please Note: NJ Transit recommends taking the 11:07 AM North Jersey Coastline train from NYC Penn Sta. to NEWARK Penn Sta., arriving NEWARK Penn Sta. 11:25 AM for the connecting 11:38 AM Raritan Valley line train to Raritan. However, this advice is only good if the train coming from NYC Penn Sta. is on time, which is often not the case. You can also take the earlier 10:14 AM Northeast Corridor line train from NYC Penn Sta. to NEWARK Penn Sta.) After walk, you have OPTION to take NJ Transit train to NEWARK Penn Sta. & transfer to PATH train to World Trade Center OR transfer to NJ Transit train to NYC Penn Sta. Raritan Valley Line schedule: https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/R0060.pdf Driving Directions: RR station has mostly permit parking, but you can park for free on side streets near RR station. Walk ends 6:15 PM Raritan Station. Rainy weather cancels the walk. If it is rain or forecast is for rain, I will email cancellation before 8:30 AM Saturday morning. If I don't email cancellation, I plan to be at meeting place.
