Tai Chi Chuan is a style of Chinese martial arts known for its slow, relaxed movements. While it can be applied to self-defense, it is considered a moving meditation. When practiced regularly, Tai Chi has health benefits that include improving your balance and flexibility; reducing internal stress, thus improving your overall health; and increasing your vitality. The movements are usually circular and never forced, the muscles are relaxed rather than tensed, the joints are neither fully extended nor deeply bent, and connective tissues are not strained. Tai Chi can be easily adapted for anyone, from the most fit to people recovering from surgery. This class is a short form of Tai Chi so it takes much less time to learn the basic physical movements. It does not require a lot of space to move around in so it's easier to practice on your own outside of class. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in easily. If you are taking both classes - this one and the following Qigong meditation class, please bring a bottle of water.
