During this meetup, you will be working on a codelab animated by Susan & Hiranya. Please remember to bring your laptop for the event. >>>> Codelab description <<<< When you build an app using Firebase, it takes care of data storage, synchronization, file storage, authentication, and other backend functionalities so that your time is spent polishing user interactions. In this codelab, you will build a Firestore-backend restaurant recommendation Android app. You will learn how to: - Read and write data to Firestore from an Android app

  • Listen to changes in Firestore data in real-time

  • Use Firebase Authentication and security rules to secure Firestore data

  • Write complex Firestore queries

  • Integrate with Cloud Functions >>>> Speakers <<<< Susan Goldblatt Susan Goldblatt is a Software Engineer at Google. She works on Firebase as a front-end developer. Before Google, she wrote a computer science curriculum for high schoolers and worked at a startup in NYC. Hiranya Jayathilaka Hiranya is a tech lead on the Firebase team, leading the development of Firebase Admin SDKs. Prior to Google, Hiranya worked at WSO2, where he developed open source enterprise integration technologies. He's a committer for several Apache projects including Apache Synapse and Axis2. Hiranya earned a bachelor’s in engineering from the University of Moratuwa. He also received a Ph.D. in computer science from UC Santa Barbara. Hiranya’s dissertation focuses on the governance of cloud applications via policies and programming language techniques. He has published original research in numerous peer-reviewed journals and conferences specialized in the cloud.
