Join New York Adventure Club ( http://www.nyadventureclub.com/ ) for an exclusive trip to the private mansion and grounds of St. Josaphat's Monastery ( https://www.stjmny.org/ ) — originally built in 1916 by the public utility executive John E. Aldred, this 119-acre estate on the North Shore of Long Island is now home to the Ukrainian Catholic priests and brothers of the Basilian Order of St. Josaphat. Led by guide and Long Island expert Karen Goodman, our exploration of this 100-year-old estate turned monastery will include: • An overview of John E. Aldred, the original property owner who was president and chairman of Consolidated Gas, Electric Light & Power, and Gillette Safety Razor Co., respectively

• A discussion with a Basilian monk around the Basilian Order of Saint Josaphat, from how they purchased the property in 1944 to what life is like at a monastery

• A tour through several historic rooms inside the Ormston Mansion, which was built in the Tudor Revival style by architect Bertram Goodhue (designer of St. Bart's Church in New York, the Los Angeles Public Library, and Chicago Tribune Tower)

• A visit to several sites through the sprawling Olmsted-designed grounds, including the rose garden, former stables, groundskeeper quarters, and private beach Click here to see pictures from one of our last visits to St. Josaphat's Monastery!
