Metta Meditation Workshop

I'll be leading a three-hour Metta meditation workshop on Saturday 25 August (just before the Reiki 1 course) suitable both for beginners and non-beginners! Metta is actually my favourite meditation technique, because it's simple yet effective, and has a strong focus on becoming happier now - rather than later. Unfortunately in the West it's rarely taught outside Buddhist meditation retreats, even though it has no Buddhist content at all and is therefore suitable for anyone. It's semi-guided, so if you're looking for a bit of structure, it could be ideal for you! So what is Metta, and why is it so effective? This form of meditation dates back to the earliest Buddhist times, and is still widely used in the Theravada, the oldest school of Buddhism.
Metta is about developing a feeling of friendliness (traditionally translated “loving kindness”) towards yourself and others. Rather than observing the mind, like in Mindfulness/Insight meditation, Metta is based around repeating set phrases, so it presents a different set of challenges and benefits.
