Astoria to Far Rockaway Run ending at Bungalow Bar!
dim. 2 septembre à 14:00
It’s that time of year again. Let’s get together and run across Queens - from Astoria Park to Rockaway Beach (yes, seriously)! If you are not up for the 16.8ish miles of the full run, we’ve got points along the way where you can meet us for a shorter version of the adventure. Please read the full event description so that you understand what you are possibly signing up for, and to figure out which option works best for you. This is a great opportunity to do something that most normal people would never consider doing. This will absolutely not be an easy run. It’ll likely be hot and humid. There are some long hills in the first half. And, the scenery along the second half of the run is not exactly the most exciting in our borough. But, we’ll end on the beach and then get food and beverages at a great bay-side bar and restaurant ( http://www.bungalowbarny.com/ ) to celebrate all that is Queens. We will take this run at a casual pace - all are welcome to participate as long as you can complete your chosen distance without stopping. This said, we will be forced to stop periodically for traffic lights and as-needed to be sure that the group sticks together (i.e., we won’t lose anybody). Where you can meet us (starting from the shortest distance): (4) Forest Park, Victory Field (track-side by the bleachers). Meet here at 9:45am.
Total distance from this point: approx. 8.75 miles (3) Juniper Valley Park (on the 80th Street side, between the rest rooms and tennis courts). Meet here at 9:15am.
Total distance from this point: approx. 11 miles (2) Doughboy Park, Woodside (by the statue). Meet here at 8:40am.
Total distance from this point: approx. 14.25 miles (1) Astoria Park (by the restrooms at the track). Meet here at 8:00am.
Total distance from this point: approx. 16.75 miles (Bonus!) Woodside, corner of 61st Street and Roosevelt Ave (by Dunkin’ Donuts, beneath the 7 train and LIRR). Meet here at 7:30am.
Total distance from this point: Just under 20 miles This map shows our approximate route (subject to change, if required):
http://goo.gl/fHTWCR If you would like to meet us somewhere along the way (whether for convenience or to cover a shorter distance), please message the organizer to coordinate. It is quite easy to take one of the several Woodhaven Blvd. buses to a suitable point that will work for you. And, if you have friends, partners, next-of-kin, etc., who would like to meet us at Bungalow Bar, the more the merrier! We will aim to arrive there by around 12:00pm. This is a challenging run, regardless of where you begin. Please be sure to use sunblock, and bring whatever fluids you may need. There are water fountains along the first half of the route (and, you may note that all of our meeting points are in parks). But, once we leave Forest Park, water options are very limited until the finish. Be sure to bring cash, as well as your Metrocard for the return trip. Please be very sure that you are ready for your chosen distance before agreeing to participate. This is for your safety and to allow others to meet their training objectives. If you have questions about anything, please message your organizer. This run will proceed, rain, shine, heat and just about anything else. In the event of torrential rain, thunderstorms or hazardous conditions, we will post an update and email all who RSVP, no later than 7:15am. ---
