Fall foliage bike ride to Captain Lawrence brewery and Brewster
sam. 20 octobre à 13:30
Hi, I am leaving from Astoria at 07h25. If anyone wants to meet me in Astoria, please let me know. This is a 65 mile trip from Queensboro Plaza. Less if you meet us further up. We will end in Brewster where we will have dinner and catch the train back to the city with our bikes. People are welcome to stay in Captain Lawrence and ride the train from nearby but the best part of the bike ride is the second half after the Captain Lawrence Brewery. You will need to bring a bike plus a spare tire in case yours pops. I have a pump and the tools to replace the tire so that is not needed. If you don't own a bike you can rent one. There are a few places in the city to rent bikes. I personally recommend Ride Brooklyn. If you get a bike please get nothing less than a performance road bike. Don't get a hybrid or comfort bike as you will regret how slow and bulky they are. The link by the New York City Cycling Club lists a bunch of other bike shops where to rent: https://nycc.org/resources/road-bike-rentals Or the better option is to get a bike if you don't own one already. :) We will make a few stops on the way to pick up stragglers. I will send my location using Google Maps. This is our schedule below. Meet me along the way at the those locations. I will update the meetup if I am running late or early at those points. I will try to stay as close to the schedule as possible. 07h30 Queensboro Plaza 08h00 Bethesda Fountain in Central Park 08h15 72nd St Boat Basin 09h30-11h00 We will get quick breakfast at Indian Road Cafe in Inwood 12h30-15h00 Captain Lawrence Brewery 17h30 Dinner at Thai Golden in Carmel. 20h30 Take Metro North from Brewster back to the city. The pace on the trails will be 11mph on average. Bike requirements: Road bike or light hybrid bike (No comfort or mountain bikes, they are too heavy and slow) Spare tube (This is not optional. If you don't have one you will have to buy one at the bike shop we pass in Inwood. Tubes pop all the time.) Bike lights (We will be biking in the dark) Helmet Metro North permit to bring your bike on the train. You can buy one on the train or if you have one bring with you. It is $5 for the lifetime of it and valid for the LIRR and Metro North trains.
