Hike + (optional) Swim at Canopus Lake in Fahnestock State Park
sam. 25 août à 15:15
On our next adventure join us as we head to Canopus Lake in Fahenstock state park for a hike and optional swim. Make sure to bring lunch, at least 2 liters of water, and snacks. We will be taking the Metro North from Grand Central to Cold Station. Round trip off-peak fare is 29. We will be taking the 9:45 am train. Once at Cold Spring we will take a trolley to take us to the lake & beach. (the trolley is $2 each way). Our return trolley to Cold Spring will pick us up at 5:30 pm. Anyone who wants to return earlier is responsible for securing for themselves a cab/uber. Afterwards if there's enough interest we will grab food in Cold Spring before heading back to the city. Inside Grand central I will be standing in Front of the Zarro's. Zarro's is on the first floor near the ticket machines and close to track 35. In case you have any trouble spotting me my cell is[masked]. This hike is moderate, a little over 6 miles. It promises some nice views of the Hudson. Please bear in mind we will be walking on unpaved roads, and up and down some hills for those views. You don't need expensive or fancy hiking shoes but you need good sneakers (leave the converse and keds home - they will make your feet hurt and much harder to walk) For more information:
https://www.nynjtc.org/hike/print/756 If you prefer an easier trail there is the Pelton Pond Nature trail (1.7 miles) which circles the lake (you will be responsible for finding your way along the trail. - Since it circles the lake it should be pretty easy to follow. And, if you prefer to skip a hike, you can, just hang out at the beach.
