Hume on Induction
sam. 9 juin à 18:00
This week we are reading Hume on induction (though he doesn't use that term) from Section 4 of "An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding". Hume argues that we can't justify our belief that, say, the sun will rise tomorrow, because it is based on thinking that the future will resemble the past, and the only reason we believe that is because, in the past, the future (near past) has resembled the past (distant past)... a vicious circularity. You can find a copy of the readings at www.theopi.org/rgmats Currently listed date is tentative.
