This Event is Open to Public.
Under the volcano and behind the scenes. Learn what is really happening about Bali’s most sacred mountain, who the players are, how to figure out what is going on scientifically, what humanitarian aid is being done and how you can help.
Hosted by Rucina Ballinger, we will have 4 notable guest speakers who will discuss the topics around Mount Agung: Rio Helmi, Nyoman Suma Artha, Jackie Pomeroy and Vanesha Manuturi.
The presentation will take place on Monday, January 15th at 11:30am - 12:30pm at Hubud Kantin Area, followed by a delicious Balinese lunch.
Cost to join this event is IDR 100,000 (talk + lunch + donation). Part of this will be donated to those who have or may have been affected by Mount Agung.
Rucina Ballinger is a long-term resident of Bali since 1974. She has written a book on Balinese performing arts, founded the Grup Gedebong Goyang (comedy troupe), is the only (known) Westerner who has been the head of a banjar (klian adat) and worked in the non-profit sector for over a decade.
Rio Helmi is a well-known photographer and has been the “scout” for the MAR (Mount Agung Relief) group: aside from hand-delivering tons of food and supplies to the IDPs, he also searched for viable evacuation routes. His writings UNDER THE VOLCANO on the website UBUD NOW AND THEN have provided thousands with knowledge about the volcano.
Nyoman Suma Artha is the head of the Bali Organic Farmers Association and co-founder of the IDEP Foundation. He has tirelessly traveled up and down the island providing logistical help and is currently helping the IDP independent camp in Tembok with a self sustaining living environment. He is also a core person at MAR.
Jackie Pomeroy has been living in Indonesia for decades and does development work throughout the archipelago. In her spare time, she has been studying about volcanoes and does her daily report on FB MOUNT AGUNG DAILY REPORT, helping others understand what all the shakes and tremors are about.
Vanesha Manuturi is a journalist who currently works in the Media Department at Kopernik. Kopernik has been coordinating the MAR relief efforts since September 22, 2017 and is the main donor organ for MAR.
These four people will provide accurate and timely information about Mount Agung and share what efforts have been and continue to be made for the IDPs.
This event is required to make a reservation in advance. Limited to 50 places. If you want to join this event, please send us an email to
