'In Saddam's Shadow: Baghdad 10 Years After The Invasion'
Free Film Screening
Wednesday January 17 2018
On the occasion of his current solo exhibition, 'variations on a garden', Abbas Akhavan has selected to show this short documentary, a view of the Baghdad ten years after the US invasion.
Made in 2013, the film is hosted by VICE co-founder Suroosh Alvi, who is guided by Waleed Nesyif, an award winning Iraqi film-maker and writer, meeting conflicting views on the many changes to the city. Akhavan's work 'and after and after' (2003/2008), included in the current exhibition, is a passport sized photographic image of Nesyif who presents himself twice; once with ink on one finger to denote the act of voting in democratic elections, and the other with all fingers inked marking admission into police records and border controls.
All are welcome to this free screening which will take place in the Gallery. There is no need to book a place.
