On August 16th we will be celebrating the history of "The Apple Barrel Industry" in Nova Scotia! Join us as we fire up the Shingle & Stave Mill to be in full operation for the day. See how we mill the staves and heads that make up a barrel. Head down to our Cooper Shop to see how barrels are made using the stock that is produced in the mill.
Nova Scotia has a great barrel making history where small communities such as New Ross produced fish and apple barrels for many years. New Ross alone once had over 120 Cooper Shops producing barrels, the majority of which were sent to Annapolis Valley to be filled with apples and then shipped to England and other parts of the world! On Wednesday, August 16th help us celebrate this wonderful history, take a stop by, ask questions and see for yourself how these once very prominent shipping containers were produced!
