Focussing on songs by female Gaelic bards, and showcasing the strength and beauty of Gaelic song, three of Scotland’s finest singers – Eilidh Cormack of Skye, Ellen MacDonald of Inverness and Lewis native Ceitlin L
R Smith – are joined by accompanist Innes White to create a powerful collective sound, representing their wealth of individual experience.
Performing at festivals such as Skye Live and Celtic Connections, they bring something new to Gaelic song, whilst maintaining great respect for the traditional material they are working with.
With a true focus on penning original and evocative songs, Avocet have been met with critical acclaim since they joined forces. Recently signed to Glasgow/Amsterdam-based label Mink Records, the Glasgow-based trio draw influences from both the blues and psychedelic folk scene of the 1960’s and 1970’s and contemporary folk and trad. Avocet will release their first single later this month ahead of their highly anticipated debut EP due in early March 2018, recorded at The Abbey Road Institute, Amsterdam.
