The Near Shore: A Scottish and Irish Cine-Concert
Trades Hall
Sunday 25 February (Doors: 17.00)
A programme of silent film work presenting perspectives on Scotland and Ireland presented with live accompaniment by Irish musicians. The programme includes works by filmmakers from both countries. Traditional folk trio Patrick Carayannis, Rodney Lancashire and Seamus Hernon will accompany Scottish amateur filmmaker Ernest Tiernan’s The Farm Below the Mountain. Renowned free-improvisational pianist Paul G. Smyth will play to a programme of short films including Ireland by Air (starring Scottish aviatrix Winnie Drinkwater), Butlins holiday camp films by John Tomkins and the rarely seen science fiction works of aristocrat Desmond Leslie.
This unique collaboration between the Irish Film Institute (IFI) and Glasgow Film Festival is supported by Culture Ireland as part of GB18: Promoting Irish Acts in Britain. This event will tour to Dundee Contemporary Arts on Monday 26 February.
