We are hosting our first ever event at the Cumberland Arms in the Ouseburn. The idea was to help support the local spoken word/hip hop scene in the area. We're pleased as punch with the first lineup!

The Unsung (Sheffield)
https://www.facebook.com/theunsungpoetry/
You’ve heard of Kurt Cobain. You’ve heard of Jim Morrison. But have you heard of Scott Johnson, or Lina Prokofiev? The Unsung is a raucous funeral party for the dead musicians you've never heard of. A journey in spoken word and music from Sheffield poet Genevieve Carver and her live band Sarah Sharp, Tim Knowles and Brian Bestall, The Unsung takes you on a whirlwind tour around the world exploring how music has shattered the lives of those who’ve loved it most.
“Gevi Carver is one of the leading stars of the northern spoken word scene, often amusing and heartbreaking in the same sentence, she is always entertaining and one of South Yorkshire’s best performers” - Now Then Magazine.
(We are super excited to bring The Unsung to the Toon for the very first time. It promises to be a great show)

Front Step Collective are a newly formed group hailing from Newcastle, the core of which came from reggae/rock/soul band Alta Vida. Influenced by boundless genres, their sound is a pulse of positivity through music.
The collective have recently acquired the skills of local performance poet Tom C. Blending their layered sound with his technical wordplay, the synergy shines through.
The group are always looking for collaborations and come together under a mantra of raising mental health awareness wherever they can.

Pascale Konyn (Newcastle)
Local story-teller Pascale Konyn will be opening the event. We were invited to perform at her evening 'Bread and Roses' and decided to return the favour! We can't wait to hear which wierd and wonderful tales she will pull our of her diverse repertoire.
