The Agonist by Shastra Deo
University of Queensland Press (UQP)
The Agonist by Shastra Deo was the winner of the 2016 Arts Queensland Thomas Shapcott Prize for Poetry.
With its wildness and originality, The Agonist is an exhilarating collection. Exploring the languages of anatomy, etymology and incantation, these poems craft conversations about fracture and repair, energy, love and danger.
Join Shastra, UQP Poetry Editor Felicity Plunkett and UQ's Bronwyn Lea as they collectively launch this fantastic new collection by one of QLD's most exciting new voices. There will be readings, speeches and cupcakes, followed by book signings by Shastra.
REVIEW
"Full of the beautiful music of fracture and repair … Exhilarating in its risk and energy, surprising in its evocations and work with form, this is a distinctive collection."
