Learn more about Ashtanga Yoga with dedicated practitioner and experienced teacher Jason Scott who has trained with some the most revered Ashtanga Yoga teachers in the UK and India.
In this session you will learn more about Ashtanga Yoga as a discipline, it’s interesting history and how the counted system is traditionally used to move through this set series of postures and practices.
Before beginning the physical series of postures, there will be time and space to discover the technique of and experience ujjayi pranyama (victorious breath).
Students will be led through the Ashtanga Primary Series using the sanskrit count and following the sequential order of sun salutations, standing postures, seated postures, finishing postures, and finally relaxation. This style of yoga is known as a breath and movement practice as each and every movement or ‘vinyasa’ has a count and an allocated inhale or exhale - when you begin to find the rhythm of the postures, the breath and the mantra like count it becomes a truly mindful yoga experience.
As progression is made through the primary series, there will be chance to play with and explore variations of some of the more intermediate asanas, with modifications and instruction on the use of props given if required.
Explore the entire flow of the Ashtanga Primary Series to the rhythm of the Sanskrit count as a way of developing your own practice and beginning to understand the way this method is taught and practiced in a traditional shala (studio) setting.
Some prior understanding and experience of Ashtanga yoga would be useful, though not essential. This workshops is not suitable for complete beginners to yoga.
