Join us, at ERT, for an evening focused on Britain’s Deadliest Rail disaster - Quintinshill.
Often referred to as ‘the Titanic of the railways’, this disaster shook rail, military and civilian communities at the height of World War One.
In 2001, Actor and Writer, Michael Simkins became deeply interested in the story when the rail accident at Paddington station drew his attention to the history of British rail disasters and led to his search for living survivors of this event.
Michael’s article, published in ‘The Guardian’ tracks his encounter meeting with one last survivor and, during the evening, Michael will discuss his research and experiences surrounding the conspiracy.
Following Michael’s talk, Down Against - a new play - presents the story of two Railway Signalmen based on events encompassing the Quintinshill Disaster.
Told using vivid digital imagery and a bold visual aesthetic, comprising vibrant physical theatre, Down Against questions their actions on a cold May Morning.
Designed/Directed by Simon Bedwell, the play is a special tribute to those who were lost and those who found themselves as scapegoats for the negligence of authorities.
Tickets £10 - 12
